Professional Ball Joint Service Solutions by VIKTEC

Servicing suspension systems requires tools that combine brute strength with precision. Inferior tools often slip, damage the steering knuckle, or snap under load. At Ningbo Dicong Machinery, we engineer our Ball Joint Separators and C-Clamp Presses to meet ANSI and DIN industrial standards. Our tools are trusted by professional workshops across Europe and North America.

What is the best tool to remove a ball joint?

The best tool depends on the joint type. For press-fit ball joints, a heavy-duty C-Clamp Press is required to force the joint out safely. For tapered joints on control arms, a Scissor-Type Separator is preferred over a pickle fork to avoid damaging the rubber boot. VIKTEC offers comprehensive Master Kits that combine both tool types, ensuring your customers are ready for any vehicle entering their shop.

Why do ball joint press tools bend?

Ball joint presses typically bend because they are made from cast iron rather than forged steel, or because the forcing screw is not properly heat-treated. To solve this, VIKTEC manufactures our C-frames using Drop-Forged 4140 Chromoly Steel, which offers 30% higher tensile strength than standard carbon steel, effectively preventing frame distortion under high torque.

How do you use a ball joint separator without damaging the boot?

To remove a ball joint without tearing the dust boot, avoid using impact “pickle forks.” Instead, use a Direct-Action Separator (Cup or Scissor style).

  • Step 1: Place the tool jaws over the stud, ensuring the cup sits on the knuckle arm.
  • Step 2: Ensure the tool does not pinch the rubber boot.
  • Step 3: Tighten the forcing screw slowly until the joint pops free.

VIKTEC separators feature adjustable jaw openings (up to 55mm) to fit various knuckle sizes securely.

Can universal ball joint presses fit 4WD trucks?

Standard universal presses often lack the opening width or specific adapters for heavy-duty 4WD trucks. However, VIKTEC Master Service Sets are specifically upgraded for this purpose. Our kits include large-diameter receiving tubes and specific adapters designed for Dana 44 axles found in Ford, Dodge, and GM 4WD vehicles, making them truly universal for professional use.
