Remove seized and rusted sensors effortlessly with VIKTEC’s professional O₂ Sensor Sockets. Engineered with a specialized wire cutout (side slot), our sockets allow for the removal of oxygen sensors, oil pressure switches, and vacuum switches without damaging the delicate wiring harness. Available in the standard 22mm (7/8″) size, our tools are manufactured from heat-treated Chrome Vanadium (CR-V) or impact-grade Chrome Molybdenum (CR-MO) to withstand high torque without flaring or slipping.
Oxygen sensors live in the harshest environment of a vehicle—the exhaust system. Constant heat cycles, rust, and carbon buildup often cause them to seize, welding them effectively to the pipe. Standard wrenches cannot reach them, and inferior slotted sockets often “spread open” under torque, rounding off the sensor hex.
At Ningbo Dicong Machinery (VIKTEC), we solve this by using superior metallurgy. Our O₂ sockets are engineered with reinforced walls to maintain rigidity even when the slot is under load, ensuring the sensor comes out safely every time.
| Standard Size | 22mm (7/8 inch) Hex – Fits 95% of Global Vehicles |
| Material Options | CR-V (Silver/Chrome) or CR-MO (Black/Impact) |
| Drive Size | 3/8″ Drive (Low Profile) & 1/2″ Drive (High Torque) |
| Design Types | Deep Slotted, Low Profile Offset, Crowfoot Key |
The “slot” designed for the wire is also the socket’s structural weakness. When torque is applied, the gap allows the socket walls to flex outward (spread), causing it to slip over the sensor corners. This is common in cheap sockets made from soft carbon steel.
The VIKTEC Engineering Solution: We combat this “spreading” issue in two ways:
1. Material Science: We use heat-treated Chrome Molybdenum (CR-MO) or high-grade CR-V, which has a higher yield strength than standard steel.
2. Wall Thickness: We reinforce the socket base and walls. Our design ensures that even with the cutout, the tool retains its hexagonal shape under high torque, gripping the sensor firmly to prevent rounding.
It depends on the socket type. You should never use an impact gun on a chrome (silver) socket, as it may crack. However, impact force is often necessary to break the rust seal on exhaust sensors.
Our Product Recommendation: VIKTEC manufactures specialized Impact-Rated O₂ Sockets (identifiable by their black phosphate finish). These are forged from CR-MO steel specifically to absorb the shock of an impact wrench without shattering. For distributors, we recommend stocking our “Master Sensor Kit,” which includes both hand-tool offset wrenches and straight impact sockets to cover all scenarios.
A standard deep socket is often too long to fit in the cramped space between the exhaust manifold and the car’s firewall or chassis.
The VIKTEC Offset Solution: For these situations, we provide Low-Profile Offset Sockets (Crowfoot style). These sockets sit much lower on the sensor and position the drive square to the side, allowing the mechanic to use a breaker bar with an extension from a different angle. This is a must-have tool for V6/V8 transverse engines found in Toyota, Nissan, and Honda vehicles.
When a seized sensor is forced out, it often drags the threads of the exhaust bung with it. Installing a new sensor into damaged threads will ruin the new part.
Value-Added Kit Component: This is why VIKTEC includes Thread Chasers (M12 x 1.25 and M18 x 1.5) in our professional tool sets. Unlike cutting taps, these chasers are designed to clean and straighten existing threads without removing excessive metal. By offering a kit that includes both removal sockets and thread repair tools, you provide a complete service solution that professionals prefer over buying individual tools.
