Pulley Puller Set

Professionally remove and install press-fit pulleys without damaging the pump shaft or pulley geometry using VIKTEC’s Master Pulley Puller & Installer Sets. Designed for high-tension interference fits found on power steering pumps, alternators, and water pumps. Our kits feature heavy-duty “Clamshell” style split collets and Grade 10.9 threaded studs, ensuring a secure, slip-free grip on GM, Ford, Chrysler, and VW engines.

Professional Pulley Removal & Installation Technology

Press-fit pulleys (common on power steering pumps) rely on a tight friction fit known as an “interference fit.” Removing them requires linear force applied perfectly parallel to the shaft. Using improper tools, like standard 3-jaw pullers, pulls on the outer rim, causing the pulley to warp or shatter.

Ningbo Dicong Machinery (VIKTEC) engineers specialized pulley tools that grip the central hub groove. Our tools distribute force evenly around the shaft collar, guaranteeing damage-free removal even on seized or rusted components.

Technical Specifications

Forcing Screw Material Hardened Grade 10.9 / 12.9 Alloy Steel (Rolled Threads)
Collet Design Split “Clamshell” Type (Zero-Slip Grip)
Bearing Integration Heavy-Duty Thrust Washer (Reduces Friction by 40%)
Coverage Fits pulley hub diameters: 1-1/8″, 1-1/4″, 1-5/16″, 1-3/8″

Why shouldn’t I use a standard 3-jaw puller on a power steering pulley?

The Technical Risk: Power steering pulleys are often made of stamped steel or composite plastic. A 3-jaw puller hooks onto the outer rim. Because the press-fit hub is tight, the force required to remove it is immense. Applying this force to the rim will inevitably bend, warp, or crack the pulley long before the hub releases from the shaft.

The VIKTEC Solution: Our sets use a Split Collet (Clamshell) design. This tool clamps directly onto the grooved hub of the pulley, not the rim. This creates a solid, 360-degree grip right at the point of resistance, ensuring 100% of the force is directed at pulling the shaft free without stressing the pulley body.

Why do forcing screws (threaded bolts) strip or snap during use?

The Cause: This is the most common failure in budget tool kits. It happens for two reasons: 1) Using soft Grade 4.8 or 8.8 carbon steel that cannot withstand high torque, and 2) High friction heat causing the nut and bolt to seize (weld) together.

VIKTEC Quality Assurance: We manufacture our forcing screws using Heat-Treated Grade 10.9 or 12.9 Alloy Steel. Crucially, we use a Rolled Thread process (not cut threads) which preserves the steel’s grain structure for maximum tensile strength. All our installer tools also feature a Thrust Bearing between the nut and the installer body to minimize friction, making the job smoother and protecting the threads.

Do your kits work on modern engines like GM LS or Ford Modular?

Yes. Older universal kits often lack the specific adapters for modern engines. For example, GM LS engines require a specific installer thread depth, and Ford modular engines use a unique pulley offset.

Universal Coverage: VIKTEC’s “Master Disconnect & Pulley Kit” is updated annually. It includes specific adapters for GM 3.1L/3.4L/3.8L V6, Ford 4.6L/5.4L/5.0L Coyote, and Chrysler Quad 4 engines. We also provide the special “long-reach” install bolts required for deep-seated pulleys, ensuring you can service both vintage and new vehicles with a single kit.

Can this tool set also remove alternator pulleys?

Standard pressed-on alternator pulleys can be removed with this tool. However, for modern vehicles with Overrunning Alternator Pulleys (OAP) or Decouplers (OAD), a specialized splined bit set is required.

One-Stop Sourcing: As a full-category manufacturer, VIKTEC produces both the standard Pulley Puller Sets (for power steering/water pumps) and the specialized Alternator Decoupler Tool Sets (with 33-spline bits). We can combine these into a “Complete Front End Service Station” kit for your premium product line.
